Uluru Statement from the Heart

Better Place Australia extends our support for the 2017 Uluru Statement from the Heart. The Uluru Statement from the Heart is an invitation to the Australian people, from First Nations Australians, to walk together and build a better future by establishing a First Nations Voice to Parliament, enshrined in the constitution, and establishing the Makarrata Commission for the purpose of treaty-making and truth-telling.

We accept this invitation as a critical step towards Reconciliation. We trust that a First Nations Voice, enshrined in the constitution, will provide the foundation for self-determination and better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

We stand in solidarity with First Nations peoples, and in support of their call for voice, treaty and truth.

We acknowledge the generosity of First Nations Peoples as they continue to build upon their resilience and resourcefulness and endeavour to develop and maintain respectful relationships with all other Australians and visitors on their Lands. This aligns well with our vision of an Australia where all people experience positive relationships, truly value each other and live safer, more confident lives.

We will continue to encourage everyone to engage in respectful conversations as we seek to come together as a nation.

We will continue to embrace the spirit of reconciliation and walk with First Nations Australians in a movement towards a better future.

The road to the Uluru Statement From The Heart is a long one. It represents the largest consensus of First Nations peoples on a proposal for substantive recognition in Australian history. The road can take us forward and also lets us look back to the decades of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander activism that came before it.
